Allison's Eczema mystery solved.

Allison has been battling eczema and itchy rashes non-stop for the past 6 months or so. We've tried every home remedy known to man-kind and finally took her skin issues to a pediatric allergist. The allergist confirmed that her skin conditions were a combination of environmental allergies and food allergies. We had a full skin prick test done this morning and learned that Allison's top two food allergies are PEANUTS and EGGS and her environmental allergies were cats and dust mytes (bye bye carpet). I'm happy that we know what is causing the skin issues, but overwhelmed at getting the eggs and peanuts out of our house!

  1. Awww... I had that done just a few years ago. Eggs is a tough one, but peanuts aren't so bad, just no PB&J. Do you have a health food store or Traders Joes around? They sell lots of alternative type foods. She will most likely outgrow it, right?

  2. Actually, when you start reading labels, peanuts are in SOOO many kids snacks. They also use peanut oil in a lot of restaurants (chick fil a!!). I went to Whole foods today and did a lot of label reading. Thankfully, eggs are mostly in baked goods - pancakes, muffins, cookies, breads, cakes, etc. They sell a lot of peanut and egg free brands at Whole foods and I bought a few cookie mixes to try them out. We are going to have to eat a lot of fruits, veggies, yogurt and cheeses, meat and fish around here:-) Yes, the pediatric allergist thought she would outgrow her allergies in a couple of years.
